What is Engineering Management?
Engineering management offers an interdisciplinary approach to address the complexities in today’s workplace. This program also provides a diverse academic background, including engineering, business, science, mathematics, and the liberal arts. The curriculum is designed to help you develop engineering and business expertise, social awareness, cultural perspective, and interpersonal communication.
What are the features of Miami’s program?
Technical specialties
Majors choose from among the following four technical specialties: Manufacturing Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Paper Science and Engineering, Electronics and Computing, or Systems Analysis.
Top-notch facilities
Engineering management majors use lab facilities in both manufacturing engineering and paper science and engineering. Laboratories replicate industry settings with the Computer-Integrated Manufacturing Systems lab (CIMS) used in the manufacturing engineering department and the pilot Fourdrinier paper machine used in the paper science and engineering department.
Work experience
You can gain valuable work experience and financial assistance by participating in our co-op or summer internship programs. This professional experience will make you more valuable to prospective employers.
Teamwork
Working together is emphasized as essential for the problem-solving skills that are required in engineering. Students learn to work together with fellow students and faculty and to become a contributing member of a team.

The placement rate for our graduates is consistently near 100 percent.

What courses would I take?
This interdisciplinary program offers a core of coursework both in engineering and business, giving you a strong technical background coupled with business management skills. You choose an engineering specialty and a Thematic Sequence of courses in another discipline as well as a variety of foundation courses within the Miami Plan for Liberal Education.
What can I do with this major?
As a graduate, you will be qualified to fill technical positions that require interaction with business aspects of operations, purchasing, personnel, accounting, and marketing. Examples of such positions include technical sales, line supervision, purchasing, environmental protection, and quality control.
